Ok, I’ll come clean straight out of the gate and admit that this isn’t actually a turkey recipe. It’s actually a Cornish game hen recipe, but in the spirit of Thanksgiving and alliteration, I felt like giving it a fun title.
The way the economy is nowadays, maybe you and your spouse have decided to be practical and forgo the expensive flight home to see your family and have instead opted to spend an intimate Thanksgiving at home with each other. With only the two of you, cooking a whole huge turkey would just be a waste… Or you could also just make this recipe any time of year, because it’s super easy and fucking delicious!
Honey Soy Game Hen
![]()
| Ingredients: 1 Cornish Game Hen 1 cup of soy sauce 1/2 cup of honey 4 cloves of garlic |
Equipment: 1 large ziplock bag 1 small oven safe casserole dish just big enough to fit your game hen. |
A Note About Honey![]() Honey is also known as the nectar of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of sexual love and beauty. Honey is easily metabolized and rich in B-vitamins, enzymes and amino acids which help to pump energy through your system. In ancient times it was traditional to present newlyweds with honey to help them enjoy their first sexual encounters. The use of honey as an aphrodisiac is also mentioned in both the Kama Sutra and The Perfumed Garden, where it is claimed that honey aids in heightening orgasms. |
Blend together the honey and soy sauce (warming the soy sauce in the microwave will help them mix together easier).
Place the game hen into the ziplock bag and pour in the honey and soy mixture. Attempt to get all of the air out of the bag so that the bird is totally submerged in the liquid. I usually do this by zipping up all but a tiny corner of the bag, then sucking out the remaining air before zipping it up… but if you don’t enjoy sucking things as much as I do, just do the best you can using your hands.
Place the bag in the refrigerator and let it marinate for several hours, even overnight if you wish.
When the hen is marinated to your satisfaction, remove it from the bag and place it in the dish. Do not throw out the liquid!
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
Stuff the garlic cloves inside the hen.
Pour the remaining honey soy liquid into the dish with the hen. It should ideally submerge the hen about halfway. If needed, make some more marinade and pour it in until the hen is halfway submerged.
Put the dish into the preheated oven and cook for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, carefully turn the hen upside down (breast down) and cook for an additional 30 minutes.
Once again turn the bird over (breast up) and cook for a 15 minutes. (If you’d like to make the top of the hen crispy, turn the heat up to 400 degrees during these last 15 minutes)
Remove the hen from the dish and carefully drain any liquid trapped inside.
Use a large knife to cut directly down the center. Plate it, garnish with whatever side dishes you desire, and serve!
This sweet and savory recipe is guaranteed to be the juiciest and most tasty thing you’ve put in your mouth since that sexy party you were at last Saturday night!
Bon Apetit,
Chef Kasidie
